Auto Coverage in Arizona

Arizona Auto Insurance

Arizona drivers are required to have auto insurance by law, and to show evidence of it if they are ever pulled over by a police officer. Arizonians can keep evidence in a few different forms: a policy binder, ID card, or copy of the policy declaration page.

Although all drivers in Arizona need to carry insurance while driving, they can register vehicle without proof of insurance.

Minimum Arizona auto insurance

Arizona drivers need to carry a minimum amount of liability insurance according to the following numbers:

  • Bodily Injury and Death: $15,000 to cover one person in any one accident, and $30,000 to cover all injuries
  • Property Damages: $10,000

The state of Arizona doesn't require drivers to have coverage for the uninsured, but most companies offer it to help protect drivers in case of an accident.

Penalties without Arizona auto insurance

Drivers who are stopped or are in an accident, and who do not have insurance proof, will face suspension of their vehicle registration and driver license.

Those who do have insurance, but aren't carrying their proof, may be able to submit evidence prior to their court date and avoid penalties. However, if they do not have insurance, the registrations can be suspended for 3 to 12 months and the driver may have to pay a fine from $250-750 . They will also be required to keep an SR-22 Certificate, showing that they have insurance coverage, for up to 3 years.

Arizona auto insurance laws

While Arizona does have a Compulsory Liability Insurance Law, enacted in 1983, it does not have a Financial Responsibility Law.
