SR-22 Auto Coverage in Connecticut
SR-22 Auto Insurance in Connecticut
Like most states in the U.S., Connecticut auto insurance is mandatory for those operating a vehicle. Below you'll find the minimum allowable auto insurance for this Connecticut.
Minimum requirements for Connecticut auto insurance:
- Personal Injury Liability: $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident.
- Damage to Property Liability: $10,000 per accident
- Uninsured or Underinsured: $20,000 per person and $40,000 per accident.
As noted, these are the minimum levels of auto insurance you must carry on each vehicle. For some high risk drivers, an SR-22 certificate must also be in effect. High-risk drivers include those who have DUI convictions, several speeding tickets, reckless driving charges, and other moving violations.
Connecticut auto insurance and SR-22 requirements
An SR-22 certificate is also called a Financial Responsibility Certificate. These certificates can be obtained through an insurance company that offers the service and is licensed to do business in Connecticut. An SR-22 is not auto insurance, but rather an insurance guarantee on your driver's license. This normally comes into play after a person has had his or her license suspended or revoked for some reason.
In order for an SR-22 to go into effect in the state of Connecticut, the insurance provider must file the certificate on your behalf. In the event the SR-22 is cancelled (for any reason) the state will be notified and the license suspended.
