GMC
GMC Auto Insurance
The Rapid Motor Vehicle Company was founded in 1901. Bought out by GM a few years later, it went on to become one of the primary manufacturers of trucks for the military during World War II, and was well-known for building transit buses from the 1920's through the 1980's. After several name changes over the years, GMC today builds SUVs, pickup trucks and vans, along with medium and light duty trucks. Obtaining auto insurance for any of these vehicles can be affordable and fast.
GMC crime risks and safety results
Just three GMC models (two of which were pickup trucks) made the list of the top 100 most stolen cars, issued by the National Insurance Crime Bureau:
- GMC Full Size C/K Pickup
- GMC Suburban
- GMC Full Extended Cab Pickup
Even though the theft risks are low, some GMC models have safety risks that buyers must consider. For example, the Envoy, Safari and Sierra 1500 did poorly on rear crash tests. However, most models scored average or higher on front and side impacts. The GMC Acadia and the GMC Terrain earned a "top safety pick " designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
GMC insurance costs
As part of your ownership costs for a GMC, you'll need to factor in insurance. What you will pay depends on whether you have a Yukon, Sierra, Savanna Envoy or Canyon. For example, the yearly insurance premium on the Yukon series ranges from $1,336 to $1,475. If you own a Sierra, you'll only pay $1,190 per year, compared to a Savanna Envoy that has an insurance cost of $1,425 per year. In case you're wondering, the GMC model with the highest insurance cost is the Yukon XL, with an average insurance cost of $1,475 per year.
