The penalty could have more dire consequences also, including six months of jail time. The Idaho statutes spelling out these regulations are 49-1232 and 49-1428.
If you're caught without insurance, you'll also have to buy insurance and file additional paperwork with the state government to prove that you are covered. This is called an SR-22 certificate, and it must be kept on file for one year for the first offense and three years for other offenses.
Another consideration for purchasing insurance in the state of Idaho is its tort system, meaning that in case of an accident, one of the drivers must be found at fault, and that person's insurance will be responsible for paying for all of the costs for repairs, medical bills, and so on.
Having enough insurance coverage is essential for making sure that you don't end up going broke after an accident – or you don't suffer other penalties.
