- Underinsured Motorist Coverage: $25,000 to cover injuries for one person, and $50,000 to cover all injuries for any one accident
- Personal Injury Protection: $30,000
These high minimums may seem like a burden, but they actually protect you in an unfortunate accident. Even if you're a perfectly safe driver, you can be faced with high costs in North Dakota if you're in an accident. This is because the state follows a No Fault system, so – even if another driver causes an accident – your insurance will need to pay for damages to your car and medical bills for you and your passengers.
Penalties without North Dakota auto insurance
Driving without enough auto insurance in the state of North Dakota can lead to heavy fines and high points against your driving record.
For the first offense if you are caught without insurance, you can be fined $150, along with six to 12 points on your record. For a second offense within the next 18 months, you will receive another fine of $300 and an additional six to 12 points on your record. You can also face suspension of your driver's license, and additional fees to obtain a new license.
