Female Car Insurance
Why is Female Car Insurance Less Expensive than Car Insurance for Men?
It may seem unfair that women attract lower insurance premiums; statistically, however, female drivers are found to be better drivers than men (i.e. women get involved in fewer accidents and have a lower amount of violations). This is why insurance companies award female drivers with lower premiums.
The most expensive group of individuals to insure overall are young men who are in the age group 21-24 (they are three times more likely than women of that age to get involved in fatal auto accidents). The reason for this is that young men are more likely to be drunk drivers, and they are also more likely to drive erratically or at high speeds.
Female auto insurance premiums are going up
The trend may be changing, and young women are increasingly being found drinking at the wheel. If this trend continues, female car insurance premiums are likely to go up. According to the California Highway Patrol, who have been collecting data on this for the last 10 years, there are a number of reasons why this is the case:
- There is increase in the number of women drivers, and therefore an increase in the number of potential accidents occurring with a woman at the wheel
- More female drivers are found to be drinking before driving
- There is an increase in the marketing of sweet flavored alcoholic beverages towards young women
In order to illustrate this, there have been a number of high profile cases recently (think Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears) where the celebrity who has been caught drinking and driving is a woman.
