Saab
Saab Auto Insurance
GM became a partial owner of Saab in 1989, and assumed full ownership of the Swedish car company in 2000 (GM is expected to sell the brand off at the end of 2009 as part of restructuring). Though the structural changes may affect the Saab brand, they will generally have little to no effect on auto insurance.
Saab was originally an airplane maker in the 1930s, supplying planes for the Swedish Air Force. Like many plane manufacturers, it refocused on making cars after the war, when the demand for planes fell (for obvious reasons). Saab created passenger cars from 1949 to 1989, and it wasn't until General Motors owned 50% of the company that it branched out into making SUVs. The Saab 9-7X was phased out in 2008, but the company has plans for a new model in 2010. Popular cars in the Saab line include the Saab 9-3 and the Saab 9-5.
Saab safety results
Compared to most vehicles, Saab models scored well regarding rear crash test protection. The Saab 9-7X was the only model that received a poor rating. However, only one of the Saab models made the Top Safety Picks list issued by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety: the Saab 9-3.
As far as theft considerations, you're at a lower risk if you own a Saab compared to other vehicles. Consider this: The National Insurance Crime Bureau did a survey of the 100 most stolen vehicles. No Saab vehicles made the list. This should have a positive affect on the cost of auto insurance for your Saab.
