SR-22 Auto Coverage in Virginia

SR-22 Auto Insurance in Virginia

Virginia auto insurance law allows vehicle owners to certify that they have auto insurance during registration. Virginia law also requires drivers to carry proof of insurance or proof of UMV. Failure to do so may result in fines and fees. Vehicle owners who cannot certify that they have auto insurance may be required to pay an uninsured motor vehicle (UMV) fee of $500 – in addition to potentially being required to carry SR-22 auto insurance coverage.

In Virginia, courts may order certain drivers to get SR-22 certifications. These can be either in the form of an SR-22 or FR44/FR46 financial responsibility certifications.
